About us

Market fishmonger's,
Three generations of fishmongers

La Ganxoneta is Laura Barrera's fishmonger's at the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Municipal Market. Third generation of a family of fishmongers.

I was born behind my parents' fishmonger's counter.Laura Barrera

He began helping out at the age of ten and has been selling fish for over forty years. He grew up in the Gràcia district of Barcelona and has lived in Sant Feliu de Guíxols for twenty-nine years.

He started out working with his family. He then worked at other fishmongers in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and at the Palamós fish auction, before opening his own stall at the Municipal Market, which had been his project from day one.

Today at the counter, we're a team. What defines us is the day-to-day interaction: getting to know who's buying, how many people it's for and how they like to cook it. That's why, with the fish, you also take home the know-how to prepare it.

How we work

Why is the fish here different?

01 · First thing

We choose the gender piece by piece.

We select each piece one by one before placing it on the counter. Only those that meet our criteria make the cut, and that's the standard set by forty years of experience.

02 · At the counter

We'll prepare it for you as you need it.

Clean, scaled, de-spined, sliced, filleted or whole. Let us know how you'll cook it and we'll prepare it for you, ready to go straight into the pan.

03 · Always

We advise you on how to cook it.

If you don't know how to prepare it, we'll show you. Forty years behind the counter have yielded plenty of Mediterranean recipes.

Every morning

Fish of the day, on your mobile

Every morning we send a short video of the stock that has just arrived. Watch it, tell us what you want, and we'll have it ready for you.

And if you prefer, we'll deliver it to your home. at no extra cost, every afternoon from 6 pm to 8 pm, in nine towns in the Baix Empordà. View the delivery area.
