We choose the gender piece by piece.
We select each piece one by one before placing it on the counter. Only those that meet our criteria make the cut, and that's the standard set by forty years of experience.
La Ganxoneta is Laura Barrera's fishmonger's at the Sant Feliu de Guíxols Municipal Market. It is a third-generation family of fishmongers, with a team serving at the counter every morning.
I was born behind my parents' fishmonger's counter.Laura Barrera
He began helping out at the age of ten and has been selling fish for over forty years. He grew up in the Gràcia district of Barcelona and has lived in Sant Feliu de Guíxols for twenty-nine years.
He started out working with his family. He then worked at other fishmongers in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and at the Palamós fish auction, before opening his own stall at the Municipal Market, which had been his project from day one.
Everything we do every day stems from the same idea: that on the counter there should only be what we would take home ourselves.
We select each piece one by one before placing it on the counter. Only those that meet our criteria make the cut, and that's the standard set by forty years of experience.
Clean, scaled, de-spined, sliced, filleted or whole. Let us know how you'll cook it and we'll prepare it for you, ready to go straight into the pan.
If you don't know how to prepare it, we'll show you. Forty years behind the counter have yielded plenty of Mediterranean recipes.
We run the stall between several of us, and we all do the same: cleaning, chopping, weighing and explaining how to prepare what you're taking away.
What defines us is our day-to-day interaction: getting to know who's buying, how many people it's for and how they like to cook it. That's why, with fish, you also take home the recipe for how to prepare it.
See fish and seafood →We send a short video of the day's genre to the WhatsApp distribution list. Watch it, tell us what you want, and we'll have it ready for you.
